A packed gallery were treated to some great action with Coffs Harbour’s Tamika Saxby showed why she is moving up the rankings with a commanding display against No 1 seed Lisa Camilleri of Australia.
The first game opened with plenty of pace and from 4/3 Saxby controlled the rallies as she cut off any of Camilleri’s shots keeping up the tempo to take the game 11/4.
In typical fashion Camilleri mounted a tougher challenge in the second game and was well in the match at 8-8.  Again, Saxby played the crucial points better catching her opponent out of position to go two games up.
In the third game Lisa struggled with the pace as Tamika dominated the centre court and limited any opportunities for Lisa to get back into the match. Tamika winning 11/3 to claim the North Coast Open, adding number 5 PSA title to an impressive record this year.

After the match  Tamika said “ I played well but it was a relief as well as this was my home town and to win a championship on my home courts is something special”. “the courts and facilities were great”

In the Men’s Open Final Joshua Larkin and No 2 seed Zac Alexander provided spectators to some great shot play. In the opening game the players appeared to glue the ball to the backhand wall and patience by both saw each attack any loose return with Alexander producing a blistering backhand winner to which the crowd responded to take the game into a tie break.
The importance of winning the first game became evident as Alexander showed superb control in the second and third games to take the match in three games .

At the presentations Zac added “ the courts here are really great to play on and it’s nice to win this tournament as it’s one of the best on the Australian tour. I’ll definitely be back”

IMG_8586 Nazihah HanisMatch Report

Play commenced with the Women opening the North Coast Open event for the first time. In previous year’s the Men have commenced play on the Friday with the Women starting on Saturday. There were good numbers attending to see some quality games with Nazihah Hanis MAS showing great court coverage to halt the attacking game of Abbie Palmer NZ. It was not until the final game the Nazihah established an early lead with  Abbie looking a little tired as Nazihah kept moving her opponent to the  front court.

In the Men’s 1st Round  Connor Sheen ENG and Jon Van Der Kreek put on a great game with players going for their shots, particularly Van Der Kreek. Sheen moved quickly on court frustrating his opponent by taking the ball early to close out many great rallies and win in straight games.

After the match Connor stated “ I thought that the match was a little scrappy to be honest. Neither of us really found our length very well so it left a lot to do round the middle of the court, but I think that I just kept the pressure on a little bit better than he did and that gave me the win.”

No two seed, Zac Alexander AUS proved too strong for Omar El Tahry EGY winning in straight games. After the match Zac stated “ happy to get through 1st round wit hout dropping a game. He’s a dangerous player having some good wins in Shepparton and Bega! Looking forward to playing against someone I haven’t played before in the Quarters”
