There were plenty of smiles on Sunday afternoon after a fantastic two days of competition in the NSW State Junior Championships by player’s who took part in the pinnacle gold ranking event on the AJST Tour and Squash NSW calendar for 2022.
Whilst organisers watched the weather pattern during the week, with a potential disruption to the event a real possibility, conditions improved towards the weekend and it was obvious to tournament organisers, with so many families arriving by Friday, that we were in for a fantastic weekend of competition.
Players in the five age groups performed exceptionally well and with 178 matches played over the two days The Coffs Harbour Squash Centre were justifiably proud of the standards on display and congratulate all the participants on their effort over the 2 days.
Special thanks to the Coffs Hotel management and staff for the great food and entertainment area with the tournament dinner providing an outstanding night out, with over 110 people filling The Coffs Hotel for a fabulous get together and brain teasing interludes throughout the night.

Social media coverage and live streaming added to the spectacle and we thank the local media TV, Prime 7 and NBN for their coverage and ABC Radio Sports for their excellent coverage of the championships. David Wigley for photography and News of the Area coverage, helped ensure a wide audience had the opportunity to come and see all the action over the weekend and took so amazing photos of the juniors.

With a packed grandstand It was very pleasing to have the President of Squash Australia, Jo Brodie attend the championship and speak, as well as present at the presentations.

There was some fantastic matches in all divisions throughout the day.
In the U/11 Girls is was an all Queensland battle with inform Riyo Kawabata taking on Abbey Boswell. Riyo winning the final 3-0.
U/11 Boys Benjamin Boardman def Cooper Jones 3-0
Boys and Girls U/13s went the distance and were both decided in the 5th Game.
In the U/13 Boys Henry Kross fought back from 2-1 down against Queenslander James Boswell who took the early lead, Henry dug deep and started to work the ball around the court to better length to take the 4 and 5th set to win the Title.
Meanwhile Madison Nargar and Emilia Scotts Final had everything – Madison took a 2-1 lead before Emilia fought back in the 4th to tie the match with a 14-12 win in the 4th game. Both players were neck and neck till 5-5 all in the 5th than Madison had a run of 5 points to take her to match ball, Emilia saved one match point, but Madsion took the 5th set and the championship win.
The Boys U/15 was between Connor Harberecht and Denver Field, Denver started well taking a 2 sets lead before Connor made a comeback in the 3rd to send the final into the 4th set, Denver reset himself and took the 4th set 11-7 to seal the match,
The U/15 Girls No1 seed Sarbani Maitra from Queensland and Amber Taylor, Sarbani showed her form and tool the match in 3 straight sets
The Boys 17s was always going to be a great final between the Slade brothers, the match went the distance again with James winning the final set 11-7 in just over a hour length match.
Emmy Lamb versed Sophie Simpson in the final but is in great form after not dropping a single game in the rounds she continued her form and took the final in 3.
Queenslander Shona Coxsedge was dominate across the weekend and went on to take the State Championships in 3 set against Ellie Thornhill.
The Boys U/19s was the final match of the day between Ken Lamb and Lockie Miller, Lockie took the 1st set before Ken change the momentum of the match and took the next 2 sets to take a 2-1 lead, however the 4th set went Lockies way. Both boys showed great hitting and retrieval through the match with ken taking the quick 6-1 lead I the final set taking it 11-7 to win the 2022 NSW Junior Championship
